I have tried most of the competition recipes. Two survived daily use.
15 g of coffee, medium-fine grind, 220 g of water just off the boil. Add all the water, stir three times, cap, wait until 1:45, flip and press slowly for about 30 seconds. Forgiving and consistent.
18 g, fine grind, 100 g of water, two minutes, press hard. Top up with warm milk. Not an espresso, but close enough for a weekday morning.
A decent hand grinder made a bigger difference than any recipe. After that, the returns get small very quickly, and I stopped chasing them.
